I am a proud Texan without a doubt. I feel privileged to live in what I consider one of the best states in the country.
There are several stereotypes that people from other places have about Texans. Like ,we all drive pick-up trucks and wear cowboy hats. We all own horses, and all of the women have big hair. Some of the stereotypes are true. I do say y’all, and I do like riding horses. I am a big George Strait fan, and like country music in general. I love a great steak dinner.
That being said, I must confess that there is a part of me that some would consider very Un-Texan. This unfortunately would include my dear husband.
My first confession would be that I don’t like chicken fried steak. I realize that this is one of the most beloved dishes in the state, and that when people from other states think of Texas, chicken fried steak comes to mind. I’ve just never cared for it.
My second admission (this one would almost be considered sacrilege to some Texans) is that I am not a fan of real barbecue -never have been, and probably never will be. Some of you may be thinking, how can she not like barbecue? My husband wonders this as well. He swears that I can’t be a real Texan and not like it. It completely goes against being from Texas, and from the South in general.
So, there you have it. My secret is out. I’m a proud Texan who hates chicken fried steak and barbecue. I just hope I don’t get banned from the state now!
