Hey! I’m Tempie Hughes, the blogger behind Healthier Dishes. Welcome to my website! Whenever I introduce myself to people, I am often asked about my first name. Is it a nickname? Is it short for something? I’ve even gotten the rude comment, “Boy, your mom sure stuck one on you”. Anyway, since I am basically ‘introducing’ myself to you, I thought I would just go ahead and tell you about my name.
It’s not a nickname. No, it isn’t short for something. Yes, my mom in a way did “stick one on me”. It wasn’t easy growing up with such a different name. Tempie was my maternal grandmother’s name. She died in a car wreck before I was ever born, so I didn’t get the chance to actually know her. I wish I had because it sounds like she was a neat person from the stories my mom has told about her.
I am proud to say that I was born and raised in Texas. I am the baby of my family, which includes a brother and a sister. I grew up in a small town, and married my husband at the age of nineteen.
I really enjoy cooking and creating healthy recipes to share with you here on the blog. My food philosophy has evolved over the course of the last few years. I have made it my mission to eliminate processed foods from our diet, and focus on real food. I don’t believe in fad diets. I’ve realized that one must make lifestyle changes in order to truly be healthy.
Getting more people back in the kitchen preparing their own healthier, home cooked meals and getting away from highly processed food is a goal of mine. I also believe that having plenty of simple and quick recipes on hand are key in sticking to this lifestyle.
Some of my other favorite activities include running and going on walks and bike rides with my husband. Oh, and of course, eating!
I hope you enjoy my website!
