Healthier Dishes

The HealthyOut App

Happy Friday, y’all! That is, if the world didn’t end. If it did, then this post will be totally pointless and a waste of time. Ha! I hope that you all had a great week. Have you all finished your Christmas shopping? We are going to be spending Christmas with my side of the family on Saturday, then my husband’s side of the family on Christmas Eve. Going to be on the road a lot in the coming days. Fortunately, they only live a couple of hours away, so the drive isn’t too bad.

I recently found a new iPhone app that I thought was pretty neat and handy. It’s called HealthyOut. This app lets you enter your dietary and nutritional specifications, and by using your phone’s GPS, it can then find restaurants nearby that have dishes that match those specifications. They even list the dishes and tell you what substitutions you might need to make if necessary. How cool is that?

If you are on a specific diet or have certain nutritional needs, choosing a restaurant can sometimes be difficult. My husband and I don’t follow the Paleo diet, but we do eat a lower carb, mostly grain-free diet, so the Paleo and Low Carb specification on the app is going to be very handy.

The HealthyOut app also gives the calories, carbs, fat, protein and Weight Watcher points.

Users can also upload photos and submit restaurants to the app. The app is free and so far, it has really good reviews. I’ve downloaded it myself and plan to start using it. I think it could come in handy for those of you that might be planning to make some lifestyle changes in the New Year.

It is currently only available for the iPhone. I couldn’t find any info on whether they are working on it for the Android, so I’m not sure about that.

*I have no affiliation with the HealthyOut app people. I just happened to run across it when I was searching through some apps, and thought I would pass it along.

What do you think about this app? Is it something that you think you would use?
