My hair is extremely fine, frizzy, and on the thin side so finding the right hair products can be a challenge to say the least. I need a smoothing serum that will tame the frizz, but not weigh it down. I also need a shampoo that won’t weigh my hair, but not strip it of moisture either. If you have hair like mine, I am sure that you understand the frustration.
I’ve tried volumizing shampoos, and they either left my hair feeling coated, or made it feel like straw. L’oreal used to have a frizz shampoo for fine hair, but they quit making it. The other frizz shampoos I’ve tried weighed my hair down.
L’oreal’s newer EverSleek shampoo is supposed to weightlessly smooth, but I was afraid that using it AND the frizz serum would still be too much for my hair.

I’d seen this shampoo numerous times, but didn’t think that ‘root awakening’ sounded like something that I needed for my particular hair type. Ulta has a Beauty Match system where they ask you some questions, then give you product recommendations based on your answers. One of the shampoos they recommended for me was this one by John Frieda.
The reviews that I read were mixed on both of these products, but they both had fairly high ratings. I know that every product isn’t going to work the same for every person. The good reviews on this particular shampoo in the line (there are 3) seemed to be mainly from people that had some of the same hair issues.
It has a very light, fresh minty fragrance, which I actually like. I don’t notice any lingering scent after I rinse.
I could tell a difference in the way my hair felt as soon as I rinsed it. I’m not really sure how to describe it, but it just feels healthier. The best part is that is doesn’t weigh my hair down, and it doesn’t strip it of moisture. YAY! Since my hair is so fine and thin, I don’t use the accompanying conditioner. I can’t say if it is doing anything for my roots or if it has ‘strengthened’ my hair, but it has made such a difference in the way it looks. I will definitely be buying more when I run out.
I loved the Kerastase Oleo-Relax serum that I used to use, because it didn’t weigh my hair down. However, it is VERY expensive for a hair product. I have been searching for something that would work as well as the Kerastase, but be MUCH friendlier on the wallet.
When L’oreal, who owns Kerastase by the way, came out with their EverSleek Silicone-Free Frizz Serum, I was curious to see if it would be a close substitute for the Kerastase.
Product Claim: EverSleek Frizz Tame Creme Serum controls frizz, while helping protect hair from humidity. Hair is left sleek and shiny, without feeling weighed down or coated.
My experience: My first impression of this product was that it worked pretty good, but not as good as I had hoped. I blame that on the drying shampoo I was using at that time. When I got the John Frieda shampoo, my opinion completely changed. These two products together dramatically helped my hair. I do still have some minor frizz after blow drying, but way less than before. A few passes with my flat iron takes care of that. The flat iron seems to slide through my hair much easier now too. I also use the serum when I let my hair air dry, and my hair is much less frizzy than it was with other products.
Another great drugstore hair product that I’ve used for about three years is the Tresemme Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hair Spray. It sets my style, resists humidity, all without weighing my hair down. It just goes to show you that you don’t have to spend a fortune to find great hair products.
