Scarlett’s Dresses To Be Restored!

About two months ago, I read online that the Harry Ransom Center in Austin was planning to restore five dresses from Gone with the Wind. They are planning an exhibition for 2014 to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the movie. The dresses are in very fragile condition so they need repairs before they can be displayed.

Having been a fan of Gone with the Wind since childhood, I cannot tell you how excited I was to hear this news. A few years ago, Neiman Marcus in downtown Dallas had some replicas of the costumes from the movie on display throughout their store. I really enjoyed looking at these, but it’s just not quite the same as seeing the real deal.

Pictures of the dresses that they will be restoring  are shown below.

The Dressing Gown (one of my personal favorites)

The Ball Gown worn to Ashley’s birthday party

The Green Curtain Dress

Scarlett’s Wedding Dress

The Blue Velvet Peignoir (worn during the scene where Bonnie has her accident)

In addition to the exhibition at the Harry Ransom Center in Austin, they also plan to loan the dresses to museums around the world. Can’t wait!
