Emotional Eating and Staying Accountable

Did you know that statistics show that as much as 75% of our overeating habits are due to our emotions? Well, our emotions got the best of us earlier this week, and we ended up ordering one of these.

The side with the jalapenos is mine.

Things have been a little stressful around here lately, and pizza is one of our go-to comfort foods. We were really craving pizza all last weekend, but we managed to resist the temptation. Until Monday, that is. I actually blame the Texas Rangers baseball team for our slip. You see, we got one of these in the mail recently.

When the Rangers score seven or more runs, your pizza is half off the next day. Well, the Rangers just happened to score exactly seven runs on Sunday beating the Angels. It was obviously a sign that we HAD to order one, right? šŸ˜‰

While I did enjoy eating the pizza (3 slices of a large), I felt horrible for the rest of Monday night, which carried over into the next day. My stomach was not happy and I was miserably bloated. šŸ™ My husband complained of stomach upset too. That wasnā€™t the only slip in eating, but it was the worst one.

Anyway, we are back on track now. I stopped posting my meals on here, and I think that doing that really helped us stick to eating better. Itā€™s a form of accountability that seems to work for us, so I decided that I needed to get back to doing that. Studies have shown that keeping a food journal can help double your weight loss efforts.

Thursday breakfast:

Spinach Mushroom Omelet

Iā€™ve mentioned before on here that I donā€™t care for mushrooms, but Iā€™ve started to make an effort to eat more of them because they are supposed to be so good for you. I donā€™t mind them as much if they are mixed into something.

The cobalt blue plate is one of the latest additions to my Fiestaware collection. My mom brought me four pieces in this color a couple of weeks ago.

Lunch was leftover salmon cakes with steamed broccoli. I seasoned the broccoli with sea salt and a little butter.

Dinner: A recipe from the Ultimate You book.

Turkey -Tomato Sauce over fresh baby spinach.

Super simple, healthy and tasty!

In case youā€™re interested, here is a slightly modified version of the recipe:

2 lbs. ground turkey breast ( I used 1 lb. ground chicken breast & 1 lb. ground chicken)
1 large onion, diced
1 clove garlic, minced
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 (16 oz) jar of marinara sauce
1 tsp italian seasoning
salt to taste
1 or 2 tsp crushed red pepper flakes, depending on how spicy you like it
fresh baby spinach

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil ( I used coconut oil) over medium-high heat. Add the ground turkey and cook until almost completely browned. Add the diced onions and mushrooms and cook for about five more minutes. Add the marinara sauce and simmer for an additional 10 minutes. Serve over a generous handful of spinach.

I used the Delallo brand of marinara sauce because it had the least carbs of all the brands I checked at the store. 4 net carbs, thatā€™s it.

I finished off the evening with a half-caff (because it was after 8 PM) caffe americano with a dash of cinnamon while I did a little blogging.

By the way, have you guys seen the new Twitter logo? If so, what do you think of it?
