Dickens of a Christmas

This past Saturday we met my parents over in McKinney so that we could attend the Dickens of a Christmas Festival. It is an annual event featuring live music, vendors, and children’s activities.

I have wanted to attend this event ever since we first moved to the Dallas area, but we just never seemed to make it there. It is held each year in historic downtown McKinney, Texas.

McKinney’s historic district is filled with unique shops and restaurants. I love going here because it honestly is one of the most charming downtown areas I have ever been to.

There are shops selling European antiques, jewelry, and collectibles. One of my favorite shops is Chase Hall.

I could spend some serious cash in this place. The antiques from Europe and other home furnishings are incredible.

The Petals & Vine Home Couture shop is another favorite of mine. They also sell unique antiques and other home accessories. It was beautifully decorated for Christmas on this visit.

One of the neatest parts of the event was seeing the store employees dressed in traditional costumes. Carolers that looked like they could have just stepped out a Dickens novel were also there singing traditional Christmas music.

While we didn’t see Santa Clause there, two of his reindeer did make an appearance.

We finished our day in downtown McKinney with a stop inside the Patina Green Home and Market. This shop takes the top spot as my #1 favorite store here. In the front of their shop, they sell fresh organic produce, cheeses, and fresh bread. These products are brought in daily from local farmers, bakers, and cheese artisans. You can even enjoy lunch here prepared by a classically trained chef.

In the other half of the store, they sell vintage furniture, European treasures, and other home accessories.

McKinney’s historic district really is worth visiting if you are ever in the area, no matter what time of the year it is.
