Celebrating Our Founding Fathers

“We hold these Truths to be self-evident, that all Men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness.”

American History was one of my favorite subjects when I was in school. It really fascinated me back then, but I’ve learned so much more in the last few years that I never knew.

The sacrifices that our founding fathers made are truly astounding. I can only imagine the courage it took for those 56 men to sign their names to the Declaration of Independence. They declared their independence from Great Britain knowing that they would be considered traitors and what the consequences would be. In fact, the last paragraph of the declaration states:

“And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance of the protection of Divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor.”

John Adams knew it would be a hard fought battle, but he also knew how great the reward would be in the end.

“I am well aware of the toil and blood and treasure it will cost us to maintain this declaration, and support and defend these states. Yet through all the gloom I see the rays of ravishing light and glory. I can see that the end is worth all the means. This is our day of deliverance.”

This day should be celebrated, and we should keep in mind the men who made the choice to stand up against unlawful British rule.

“The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary Festival. It ought to be commemorated, as the Day of Deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever.” – John Adams

Our founding fathers sacrificed so much so that we could live without the threat of tyranny hovering over us. I’m sure if they could see what is going on in this country right now, they would be utterly appalled. I believe that we need to pray for our country more than ever now, and I’d like to ask you to join me in praying for the future of this great nation.
