Born To Run

I was ten years old when I got my first pair of Reeboks. They were white with light pink trim and, oh how I loved those sneakers. With them came the love of running.

I have had many more pairs of tennis shoes since then, but my love for running has stayed the same. Now, there may have been a few breaks from running now and then in my life, but I always come back to it.

For me, there is just nothing like the feeling I get after completing a long run. It is the best natural high a person can get.

I am fortunate to live in an area where I have miles and miles of sidewalks to run on. Treadmills aren’t really my thing, but in the winter I make an exception. I am not one of those die-hard joggers that will run in 40 degree weather.

For me, running outside means I can visibly see my progress. Plus, I don’t have the option of just stepping off the treadmill and quitting. If I go two miles away from home, I don’t have any choice but to run two miles back. That leaves no room for excuses to quit.

Running is also one of the best defenses against the blues. If I haven’t jogged in awhile, I usually start to feel a little depressed. Exercising puts me in a better state of mind, not to mention it certainly does help my pants fit a little better.

I have tried several different types of exercise, including the elliptical machine and workout videos. None of them give me the same great feeling that jogging does.

I will need to purchase new running shoes soon, but I think that my very first Reeboks will always be my favorite pair because they helped me discover my love for running.
