CeraVe Moisturizing Lotion PM

March 1, 2012

I’ve mentioned before that I struggle with dry skin. Up until recently I was using Olay Total Effects facial lotion, which I really liked. Unfortunately, it just wasn’t cutting it for me anymore.

I began searching online for a new moisturizer. Before I purchase any new skincare product I do my research and read through the reviews of products online. Some of the moisturizers meant for really dry skin are heavy and can cause you to have clogged pores. I needed one that could provide enough moisture, but didn’t cause my face to break out. I came across the Cerave Facial Moisturizing Lotion PM during my search.

The reviews were mostly good on the various sites that I checked, and the ingredient list was pretty impressive. According to renowned dermatologist, Dr. Leslie Baumann, Glycerin and Ceramides are rich moisturizers that help restore your skin barrier. It also contains Niacinamide, which is supposed to have anti-aging benefits.

I don’t know if you guys are familiar with Cosmetics Cop, Paula Begoun, but she gave this lotion her highest approval rating in her review of this product. She says that CeraVe moisturizers “contain outstanding blends of emollients and skin-identical ingredients”. Another reason it earned her highest rating was that it is fragrance-free, which is better for people with rosacea and sensitive skin.

Despite being a lotion, this moisturizes amazingly well. It also absorbs quickly, which is something that I really appreciate in a moisturizer. No more itchy, dry winter skin! I’ve worn it under my makeup without any problems too. There is an AM version that contains sunscreen, but I haven’t tried that one.

This costs about $13 at CVS Pharmacy, but I just checked and it is on sale this week for $10.39. The CeraVe line of products includes a cleanser, but sadly I couldn’t use it because it made my face burn. If you are searching for a great moisturizer for dry skin, then I highly recommend this one.

Are you using a topical prescription medication as well? Could that be why the cleanser “burned” you?

Hi Michelle! No, I don’t use any topical prescriptions. I don’t really understand why it “burned”, but I had about the same reaction when I used Cetaphil’s cleanser, and that is supposed to be really gentle. So weird because my face is only slightly sensitive.

I use CeraVe too and am happy with it. I try to avoid beauty products with fragrance. I have a big tub of it from Amazon, it’s not the PM kind, haven’t seen that. I got started with it by using a sample from the dermatologist, it’s supposed to be very gentle on the skin.
